On Dec 4, the 19th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, currently being held in Asunción, Paraguay, approved the inclusion of Spring Festival, social practices of the Chinese people in celebration of the traditional new year, on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

With this addition, China now has a total of 44 items included on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage lists, more than any other country.
