The Liupan Mountain National Nature Reserve in Ningxia has released a comprehensive biodiversity report following a two-year field survey.

The findings reveal a significant increase in vertebrates, invertebrates, higher plants, and large fungi, with 575 new species identified. Animal resources now comprise over 85 percent of the region's total species.

Compared to the 2012 scientific survey data, Liupan Mountain's biodiversity has experienced substantial changes. The number of large fungi species has surged from 24 to 203, the number of higher plant species has increased from 1,140 to 1,185, and plant communities have expanded from seven to eight vegetation types.

Invertebrate species have risen from 3,554 to 3,736, amphibians and reptiles from 13 to 18 species, bird species from 200 to 347, and mammal species from 47 to 64.

"This increase not only underscores the rich biodiversity of Liupan Mountain but also reflects the ongoing improvement of the ecological environment in the reserve," stated Wang Shuanggui, head of the Liupan Mountain National Nature Reserve Administration.

According to Wang, expanding forest areas have created a 300-kilometer green corridor for wildlife migration, facilitating the movement of species. Consequently, Liupan Mountain's biodiversity continues to flourish, welcoming new species into its ecological community.

Liupan Mountain has earned the reputation of a "kingdom of wild flora and fauna", currently hosting species such as the forest musk deer, tufted deer, Chinese goral, and serow. The endangered black stork, often referred to as the "panda of birds", has also been observed in flocks on the mountain.
