Ningxia has achieved significant progress in intellectual property development. As of October 2024, the region boasted 7,821 effective invention patents, with an impressive 10.73 patents per 10,000 people, a 24.05 percent year-on-year increase.
This strong performance can be largely attributed to a series of measures implemented by authorities, including strengthening the IP protection system, enhancing administrative protection, and supporting the effective use of IP rights.
From January to October 2024, Ningxia was granted 8,899 patents, including 1,554 invention patents, 6,989 utility models, and 356 design patents.
These patents were distributed among 2,499 patent holders. Three of the top 10 patent holders were higher education institutions, one was a government organization, and the rest were enterprises. Enterprises accounted for over half of the total patent holders, with their authorized patents making up more than 50 percent of the total.
During the same period, Ningxia filed 12 international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty.
An official from the Ningxia Intellectual Property Office highlighted that enterprises continue to be the region's main drivers of technological innovation. They have been granted 7,252 patents, including 1,188 invention patents, 5,846 utility models, and 218 design patents.
