Planting ginseng fruits has brought prosperity to locals in Tongxin county, Wuzhong, Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
"In the county, the temperature difference between morning and evening is significant, and the soil is rich in selenium, making ginseng fruits here very tasty. It is a fruit high in calcium and low in sugar, with exceptional nutritional value," said Yang Ming, an official from Xiamaguan town in the county.
The county, aiming to develop characteristic modern agriculture, has invested 300 million yuan ($42.53 million) to construct 1,502 facility greenhouses — comprising 849 cold sheds and 653 warm sheds — along with supporting facilities such as refrigerated warehouses and pest and disease control rooms.
All greenhouses are currently providing benefits, with each earning between 30,000 and 50,000 yuan.

"To increase the income of locals, we have mobilized 1,346 local households to independently operate and plant greenhouses according to the standard of one greenhouse per household. They only need to pay a land transfer fee of less than one thousand yuan, and then the income from planting will be their own," said Yang.
The town has also hired professional technicians to guide villagers in planting and to share planting experience.
"Last year, I earned 55,000 yuan by planting ginseng fruits. This year, I will plant two crops in total, with the first crop currently growing well and estimated to earn 50,000 yuan," said Gao Zhendong, a town villager.
