The fifth session of the 11th Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Jan 19.
Cai Desheng, a member of the committee, attended the meeting via a video link together with other members in Hong Kong.

Cai said in a phone interview that it's quite an achievement for CPPCC to have maintained its number of reports and proposals despite the pandemic over the past tough year.
According to Cai, the occasional COVID-19 cases in Ningxia in 2021 did not affect the follow-up of proposals too much, which was a highlight of the meeting.

Cai submitted a proposal on promoting Ningxia's agricultural products through its vegetable brands in Hong Kong after listening to the report of Cui Bo, chairman of the CPPCC Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Committee.
Cai said Ningxia's vegetables supplied to Hong Kong have developed their own brand in Hong Kong, and though Hong Kong residents may know nothing about Ningxia, most of them know Yinchuan because the vegetables such as cabbage and mustard they eat every day are grown there.
He hoped more Ningxia produce can become brands in Hong Kong and expand their market in Southeast Asia and even in Europe and the Americas through his proposal.
Cai suggested that Ningxia's industrial, commercial and agricultural departments can actively contact suppliers of other agricultural products as well as the brand holders of Ningxia cabbage to help boost cooperation or establish joint ventures.
Meanwhile, he suggested agricultural products should meet the requirements of green practices such as avoiding the use of pesticides and utilizing organic fertilizers so as to ensure the quality of agricultural products and the brand value of vegetables already supplied to Hong Kong.
